Each day includes coffee, mid-morning snack, lunch, wine and hor d'oeuvres
Saturday night also includes dinner

$450

Day 1: Friday, October 10, 2014

Dive Into Color

On the first morning of the retreat we will discuss the key elements of color theory and explore what makes color palettes work and why some are boring or flat. Most importantly we will learn methods of how to fix the color palettes that don’t work. We will create our own elementary color wheels while learning how to mix paints to get saturated colors as well as complex neutrals. In addition, we will play with the color wheels and templates in EYE FOR COLOR to enhance our color palettes and explore exciting new combinations.

In the afternoon we will start creating the colorful backgrounds that will become the foundation for the paintings over the next couple of days.

Day 2: Saturday, October 11, 2014

Poppies

Using the colorful backgrounds created on the first day, we will begin to draw out some poppies, then add layers of fluid acrylics to enhance the shapes. Finally we will add touches of color to give the palette depth and interest!

Please note that Dive Into Color is a pre-requisite for Poppies

Day 3: Sunday, October 12, 2014

Small Series:

Apples, Pears (and Beyond)

Create a series of small whimsical paintings bursting with color. Whether your subject is simple or complex, abstract or realistic, these gems are sure to brighten any wall!

4 Day Retreat

2 Day Class: Date TBD

Wander With Color

What better way to play with color than in making bead soups? Just as a painter mixes different pigments on her palette, you will learn how to make bead soups that contain depth and movement. We will focus on single palettes of color then explore ways to wash

them together. You will apply what you learn by designing and making a

color wash piece that glows!

On the first morning we will discuss color theory and use paint and paper to create fast and easy color palettes. We will use the color wheels and templates in EYE FOR COLOR to enhance our color palettes and explore exciting new combinations. After lunch, we will begin pulling together bead soups and creating our one-of-a-kind piece.

On day 2 we will see our project come to life!

Your kind words from past retreats warm my heart...

“All we can say is, thank you, thank you, thank you! It was an amazing week of wonderful instruction, fabulous food, perfect location, lots of laughs ... what more could anyone have possibly wished for? I pity all those who could not attend; they missed a wonderful time with you.” - Leigh Steiner & Jan Scully

“I just wanted to thank you for being such a gracious host and fabulous teacher. Your beach home is lovely, the food was yummy, and the classes inspiring. I so enjoyed being there!” - Marlene Brannen

“I just want to drop you a line and tell you how much I enjoyed your Autumn Retreat, such a special time to be around so many creative people. I have your classroom photo up on my screen saver, so I get to relive this fun time a number of times during the day and have told my girlfriends all about each project and the wonderful healthy menu that you served each day.

The time that you gave me is entered in my Journal of Life Time Memories.” – Barbara Jo
